Student Life

Fraternity

Jesus, first born among many brothers, inspired Francis to set up a way of Gospel life called fraternity - we are truly an Order of Brothers.  We live our lives together. And it is a hard life for loners  - your community is your home, your family, your base. They also say that your community is chosen to teach you the meaning of the word 'love'. You try living with 28 men aged 19 to 80!!!

The Individual

Student years...a special time for growth and development, whether you join straight from school or after 20 years.  If this is the life for you then it is the only place you'll become who you are called to be - truly yourself and truly alive.  And, of course, as a Capuchin, warts and all, you are taken for who you are.

Prayer

When Francis answered the call of God he began a life-long quest for a spirit of holy prayer and devotion.   His life flowed from his prayer. He became a living prayer.  We are called to a life of genuine prayer in such a way that all may see and perceive in us and in the life of our fraternities the goodness and kindness of God Present in the World. We truly pray as brothers when we come together in Christ's name. Our prayer, inspired by the same Spirit, goes hand in hand, and is grounded in our common life.

Your studies will include

Work

Plenty of work to be done.   In Church Street, for instance, students have been involved in Focus Point; the Merchants Quay drugs/HIV project;  parish missions, school retreats, school and hospital chaplaincies, youth clubs, adult literacy projects, prayer groups of all hues and shades.   And, of course, housework.  Ever cooked for 30'?  Or made a habit? Worked as guest master? Been a sacristan"? Student days are a time for learning, finding out where you fit in best where your talents lie.
